Dancehall with Nina Flagg presented by Saint Louis Dance Theatre

  • Shakespeare Festival Rehearsal Hall 3333 Washington Avenue St. Louis, MO, 63103 United States (map)

This introductory workshop series delves into the vibrant world of Dancehall, a dynamic social dance and music culture originating in Kingston, Jamaica. The root of this provocative and highly codified Jamaican dance tradition can be traced back as early as the 1970’s and has since permeated global pop culture. Throughout the workshops, participants will engage in the diverse techniques, styles, and trends of Old School, Middle School, and New School Dancehall. We will  address history and cultural context, as well as gender politics through the embodiment of female Bruk Out/Rude Gyal style and male Party Dance and Shott style.  This workshop series is open to all levels, dancers and non-dancers alike. Please wear a  cross trainer sneaker and non-restrictive clothing that gives you full range of motion and makes you feel like your sexiest self! Bring water and a towel.

Nina Flagg joins us in St. Louis from March 17-22, 2025 for one week only!
