Audition notice STL! St. Louis dancers and movers, we are auditioning for our space station residency 2024 on 4/21, 1-3pm at Sports Medicine & Training Center, 119 Watson plaza Crestwood, MO.
The audition is FREE and will be in person! It is required to reserve a spot by emailing spacestationdance@gmail.com prior to the audition with your name and phone number. The audition will consist of a class, improvisation scores, and choreography.
6-10 dancers will be hired for a contract from July 30th to August 11th which will include 20 hours of rehearsal time, a night of tech, and 3 performances. Dancers will be paid $13.50/hr for their work. Schedule below.
Space Station Residency invites any dancer, performer, and/or movement artist to audition regardless of training background, race, gender, age, sexual orientation, or any other identity identifiers. Preferably, be a member of the greater St. Louis area dance community.
This year’s guest choreographer is Ty’esha Lewis (Ty) who is a dance/movement artist, choreographer, teacher, scholar, and activist. She was born and raised in Houston, TX. Ty received her BFA in dance from Sam Houston State University in 2015, and her MFA in dance from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2023. She has trained in a variety of dance forms from modern, contemporary, and ballet to jazz, improvisation, street, and community dance forms, both nationally and internationally. She also has a background in somatic studies such as Pilates, yoga, and Alexander technique. Ty has taught dance/movement for 12 years and strives to cultivate spaces for her students to utilize dance as a form of expression, physical engagement, and meaning-making.
